The Google Pixel 4a was about to debut in early May at Google I/O but the event got canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Although the successor to Pixel 3a is still in the pipeline and is rumored to release soon. Leaks have confirmed how the device is going to look and what to expect from Google. Let’s dive in deeper.
Google Pixel 4a facing a long delay
According to a popular YouTuber Jon Prosser from Front Page Tech, the Pixel 4a was expected in May but the launch has now been pushed to July 13. Prosser added Pixel 4a is ready to ship but the company is in favor to delay products due to the pandemic.
As per the Tweet, there will be no 5G Pixel this year while the device will be available in two color variants: “Just Black” and “Barely Blue”. It also confirms that the company is looking to ditch the XL variant.
What Pixel 4a has to offer?
Recent leaks reveal a 5.8-inch OLED display with round corners, slimmer bezels, and a punch-hole design. It bears a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels, 444ppi pixel density, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Amidst several high refresh rate releases, Google is sticking with the 60Hz refresh rate.
The rear camera of Pixel 4a has a square design which might be borrowed from Pixel 4 with an updated algorithm for improved picture quality.
The rear sensor is a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.73 aperture which supports OIS and EIS stabilization with up to 4K video recording. At the front, there is an 8MP Sony IMX365 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and fixed focus.
Pixel 4a will be powered by the Snapdragon 730 chipset as compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 670. The phone will pack a 3080 mAh battery with 18W fast charging.
Although Android 11 is about to launch shortly, Pixel 4a seems to arrive with Android 10. Google Pixel is rumored to be priced at $349 and would offer two colors “Just Black” and the new “Barely Blue” which is replaced by ‘white’ color. Here is a list of Rumored specs:

Some leaks also show the XL variant with dual rear cameras in the square camera module. These variants could be market-specific. It is also rumored that Google might come up with Pixel 5 early next year. Coming back to Pixel 4a, there will be no functional edges on this device. The company might also launch some exciting new colors to mix things up. XDA developers have released the Pixel 4a wallpapers ahead of its launch.
Google’s new device will be competing against the iPhone’s SE 2020 as they both bear almost the same price tag. I think the Pixel has an edge here with a modern-day design but still has to prove itself in terms of performance. It will an interesting battle of the non-flagship devices.
