Huawei announced the world’s first Artificial Intelligence(AI) based smartphone the Honor View 10 or Honor V10. Honor, which is a sub-brand of Huawei, announced the registrations for Honor View 10 on Amazon India from December 28. The smartphone will go on sale starting January 8, which was announced at the London launch event earlier this month.
The Honor View 10 a.k.a Honor V10 is priced at €499 (Rs 38,000 approx.) in Europe while it will be priced at Rs 29,999 in India which will give a tough competition to OnePlus 5T and Mi Mix 2. You can register to buy the smartphone from Amazon India.
Honor V10 is the best smartphone from Honor since the Honor 8 Pro which was launched in competition to the OnePlus 5. The highlight of the Honor V10 is its new Kirin 970 SoC, which is equipped with Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for handling AI related tasks. Honor View 10 is feature rich device and offers more than the competition on paper. Apart from the AI enabled processor the smartphone offers a dual rear camera set-up with a 16MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor. The main camera is a f/1.8 aperture lens which promises a great low-light photography along with dual LED flash and PDAF support. There is a 13MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 for selfies. The Honor V 10 runs on EMUI 8 which is based on Android Oreo out of the box.
In terms of Hardware, Honor V10 sports the first AI enabled processor, the Kirin 970. The smartphone features a 5.99-inch, Full HD+ IPS Display at a resolution of 1080×2160. What’s interesting is that Honor has managed to keep the fingerprint sensor at the front right below the display which doubles as a Home button, despite the thin bezels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Honor V10 is equipped with a fast charging battery of 3750mAh.
When it comes to Build and Design, the Honor V10 doesn’t stand out from the competition. The smartphone feels extremely premium. At the front, there is a large 5.99-inch18:9 display and Honor has managed to squeeze in the fingerprint sensor at the front, which is quite an achievement considering the thin bezels. I personally like the placement of the fingerprint sensor at the front. There are speaker grills, USB-C port and a headphone jack at the bottom. Just like the OnePlus 5T, the Honor View 10 has a camera bump at the back which is the only thing I didn’t like. I wish Honor kept the seamless camera design as the Honor 8 Pro.
Overall, the smartphone is very premium the only hiccup is the camera bump which is the same as OnePlus 5T.
Speaking of the camera, as usual, Honor offers a lot of modes in their default camera app and says that AI is an important feature of the camera which ensures you take good photos. The camera uses AI to recognize whether you are clicking pictures of a person, an animal or a landscape. The objective here is to give the best possible pictures in Auto mode.
Honor also took on Apple’s Animojis with 3D facial animations. The company claimed that the tracking and animation of the users face is better and more detailed than Apple’s offering.
At the end, Facial Recognition is another feature which will give Apple’s FaceID a competition. The company claims its Face Unlock system to be secure enough to work with payment apps. The front camera is intelligent and only unlocks the phone when your eyes are open.
