Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus launched at MWC 2017, India Launch Set For March 15

Motorola unveiled the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones at MWC 2017 in Barcelona. After Sunday’s MWC event, Lenovo sent press invites for an event on March 15 in New Delhi, confirming the launch in India.

Motorola India also confirmed the launch via Twitter. The tweet says, The tweet says, ” You either get a flaunt-worthy phone or a fast processor. #WhyCompromise when you can get both? Wait for the #MotoG5Plus.

The new Smartphones have received a major design refresh, with a metal body and a circular camera frame at the back. We also see some enhancements in the specifications with affordable price range.

Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 625 Octa-core processor, 3GB or 4GB of RAM options depending upon the region, 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, microSD card support, and 3,00omAh battery. The phone sports a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 1.4µm pixels, an aperture of f/1.7 and a dual-LED flash. The Moto G5 Plus can shoot 4K videos which is missing in its predecessor Moto G4 Plus.

The Moto G5, on the other hand,  features a 5-inch Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by a Snapdragon 430 processor, either 2GB or 3GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, microSD card support, and 2,800mAh battery. It features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 1.1µm pixels, an aperture of f/2.0 and a LED flash. For selfies, there is a 5-megapixel, wide-angle front-facing camera.

Both the smartphones feature fingerprint scanners at the front which doubles as the Home Button. The devices will have a seamless integration with Google Assistant, a feature first exclusive only to the Pixel devices.

Both the smartphones come with Motorola exclusive features such as Moto Display, Actions, twist gesture, and a One Button Nav mode that lets users navigate the interface with swipes on the fingerprint scanner, which would be useful as a one-handed mode on the larger G5 Plus. Also, the duo runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

The Moto G5 starts at EUR 199 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant while the Moto G5 Plus has been priced at $229 (roughly Rs. 15,300) for the 2GB of RAM with 32GB storage model, and EUR 279 (roughly Rs. 19,700) for the 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage variant. The price of the 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage variant of the Moto G5 Plus has not been announced as of now. However, the prices may differ for Indian markets.
