Nothing, a consumer electronic company founded by Carl Pei is working on its first Android smartphone. Carl Pei announced the brand partnership with Qualcomm back in October 2021. Since then, there has not been a word about the Nothing smartphone powered by Qualcomm.
Until yesterday, another cryptic Tweet from Carl Pei got the fans excited. Carl Pei reshared a Tweet showcasing a smartphone prototype prepared by a fan. Later, he Tweeted “Android 12 is nice” followed by “Back on Android” on his Twitter handle. All these series of Tweets by the former OnePlus co-founder created a buzz in the market about a Nothing Phone.
The brand launched its first product, Nothing Ear (1) true wireless earbuds, in July 2021. Then Nothing announced its partnership with Qualcomm in October 2021 and launched a Black edition of Ear 1 in December 2021. Later, the company made some pretty bold moves by accepting cryptocurrency and opening a Nothing kiosk for customers in London.
In 2022, Nothing said “Get ready for a whole lot of Nothing” which again got the fans excited, and with the recent tweet from Carl Pei, it seems that the company will launch its first-ever Android smartphone this year. Earlier, Manu Sharma, Nothing India’s Vice President, and General Manager shared the company’s plans to unveil five new products. Apart from this, we have an exclusive report by 91mobiles that reveals Nothing is working on an Android smartphone that could be revealed in early 2022 after a power bank called the Nothing Power 1.
As far as the smartphone is concerned, Nothing acquired Andy Rubin’s Essential company back in January 2021. Nothing can use Essential’s tech to launch its first smartphone. Furthermore, the company always talks about making technology simple which is only possible by providing an ecosystem. Thus, we also speculate that the company could launch a Smart Hub speaker that Essential was working on for seamless connectivity between Nothing devices.
As for the phone and power bank, we can expect it to hit the market this year, I think the semiconductor shortage should have hit the company as well. That’s all we have for the Nothing line of products right now. We hope to learn more about Nothing Phone in the coming days.
