Oppo recently launched its new device in China called the Oppo Ace 2. The Ace 2 comes with a 5G connectivity and a 40W wireless charging technology known as the “AirVOOC”. The OnePlus 8 series was recently launched with a 30W Wireless Warp Charge. Oppo is the 1st smartphone OEM manufacturer to introduce a 40W wireless charging technology. The Oppo Ace 2 features the best in class 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 for the wired charging technology.
The Oppo Ace 2 launch event also marks the launch of the Oppo Enco W31 wireless earbuds in China which were already launched in India. The leaks suggest that the Ace 2 features a 6.55-inch AMOLED punch-hole display with an In-Display fingerprint sensor.
Oppo Ace 2: Design
As far as the design is concerned, Oppo is usually known for its quirky flashy designs. This time around the device sports a 6.55-inch punch-hole display. The smartphone weighs in at 185 grams and measures at 160×75.4×8.6mm.
The device sports a gradient glass back with a metal frame and a circular quad-camera setup which is similar to the last year’s OnePlus 7T. The smartphone will be available in Silver, Grey, and Purple colours. The power button lies on the right edge while the volume keys sit on the left edge. At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port and a speaker grill. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone.
Oppo Ace 2: Specifications
Oppo phones are known to rock some of the best hardware in the industry. I have broken it down to different parts for a better explanation.
The Oppo Ace 2 sports a 6.55-inch Full HD+ (2400x1080p) AMOLED display. The device has a refresh rate of 90Hz, a touch-sampling rate of 180Hz, 96.3% DCI P3 colour space and a deltaE value as low as 3. It means that the display delivers and excellent colour accuracy with a peak brightness of up to 819 nits. The Ace 2 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and the back. It is capable of viewing HDR10+ content at a pixel density of 402ppi. The smartphone has an 85.9% screen to body ratio and has slightly thick bezels similar to the iPhone. The display also sports an In-Display fingerprint sensor which is fast enough.
Processor and Storage
The device is powered by Qualcomm’s latest 5G chipset the Snapdragon 865 which is clocked at 2.8GHz. It is coupled with an Adreno 650 GPU to provide you the best graphic experience. The smartphone supports stereo speakers, wherein the earpiece doubles as a speaker while listening to any audio.
The Oppo Ace 2 is available in 8GB and 12GB RAM variants. In terms of the internal storage, 128GB, and 256GB UFS 3.0 storage variants. There is no support for the external memory card in the phone.
The circular housing at the back houses a quad-camera setup. The main camera is a 48-megapixel, 26mm wide, f/1.7 aperture with a 0.8um pixel size. Second is an 8-megapixel ultrawide 116-degree secondary lens, third is a 2-megapixel portrait lens and a 2-megapixel mono sensor. While the front camera is a 16-megapixel shooter with f/2.4.
On the software part, the device comes with Android 10 out of the box with its custom skin called ColorOS 7.1.
The Oppo Ace 2 is powered by a 4000mAh which supports a 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging. It is the fastest charging technology in the world. The device also supports 40W Wireless fast charging which is again the fastest wireless charger in the world. The Air VOOC wireless charger can charge the device from 0 to 100% in just 56 minutes. The charger also comes with a fan to keep the temperatures low. Ace 2 is Qi compliant at 10W and also supports reverse charging.
Price and Availability
The device is priced at 3999 yuan in China for the 8GB/128GB variant and goes up to 4599 yuan for the 12GB/256GB variant. The Air VOOC charger is priced at 249 yuan.
The device might launch in India around 15th May and is expected to be priced around Rs 40,000 for the base variant.
