Xiaomi has finally launched the much anticipated Redmi 5A, touted as “Desh Ka Smartphone” in India. The Redmi 5A is the cheapest smartphone by Xiaomi and will cost Rs 4,999 till first 5 million units, which later on will be priced at Rs 5,999. The smartphone will be sold via the online retailer Flipkart, Mi website and other offline channels, starting 7th December.
Xiaomi is offering Rs 1,000 discount for their first 5 million customers in India. This Xiaomi’s attempt to give back a total of Rs 500 crores to Mi India community. This effectively brings down the price of the 2GB variant of Redmi 5A at Rs 4,999 while the 3GB/64GB storage variant is priced at Rs 6,999
Redmi 5A Specifications
Talking about the specifications the Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch 720p HD display with Reading Mode. The device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with either 2GB or 3GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB internal storage. There is a dedicated Micro SD card slot which can be used expand the memory up to 128GB.
The Redmi 5A sports a Metallic matte finish and features dual pyrolytic graphite sheets at the back, which the company claims keeps the device 1-degree cooler. However, the highlight of the phone is 3000mAh battery, which Xiaomi claims can last up to 8 days on standby and up to 7 hours of video playback. There is a 13MP camera at the back with a LED flash and a 5MP camera for the selfies. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. The smartphone runs on MIUI 9, which is based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.

While the smartphone will go on sale from 7th December, the online retailer Flipkart is offering some lucrative offers. Flipkart has only listed the 2GB/16GB variant which will go on sale starting 7th December. The online retailer is offering a No Cost EMI option starting at Rs 243 per month with the device and a 5% off on Axis Bank Buzz credit cards. Mi.com also has a Jio offer for the customers who buy the smartphone with a Jio connection.
