We are barely into March, and Realme has already launched the Realme 9 series with three smartphones in the Indian market. The company is strategically launching smartphones in every price range. Now, Realme is looking to extend the Narzo series with Realme Narzo 50. The previous Narzo series device, the Narzo 50A sports a massive 6000mAh battery with a 50MP triple rear camera. In this Realme Narzo 50 review, we will talk about the smartphone and see if it is worth buying or who should buy it?

Design
The Realme Narzo 50 sports a well-built polycarbonate unibody design with a matte finish. The phone does look beautiful with a carbon fiber-like pattern at the back and feels solid in hand. It resembles the previous generation of the Narzo series with a side-mounted power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. The bottom edge houses a USB Type-C port along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a mono speaker grille. The volume rockers sit on the right edge along with the SIM tray.
The triple rear camera module at the back looks more symmetrical than the previous generations of Narzo phones. At 194g, the device is slightly on the heavier side. But the good thing is that the weight distribution is good which makes it comfortable to hold in a single hand. The kevlar texture finish at the back adds extra grip to the phone. Overall, I don’t have anything to complain about at this price. The device is available in two color options: Speed Blue and Speed Black.
Performance
Let’s talk about the performance and specs of the device and how it performs in real life.
Display
The Realme Narzo 50 sports a 6.6-inch IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution, large bezels, and a punch-hole at the top right corner. The display has a 120Hz refresh rate but it’s an LCD, so the viewing angles are not very good. However, the device supports WideVine L1 certification. It ensures that the device can play HD content from OTT apps. The smartphone offers a bunch of customizations to fine-tune the display according to the user’s preferences. Overall, the display performance is fluid with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the brightness levels were satisfactory indoors but struggled in the sunlight.
Camera
The Narzo 50 comes with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary sensor along with 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. At the front, there is a 16MP selfie shooter. There has been regular improvement in the camera department in this segment. However, the 2MP macro and depth sensor are a gimmick. The OEMs have made it a selling point by adding a bigger stack of camera lenses to a smartphone. Anyway, it is the case with most smartphone manufacturers these days.
In terms of performance, the camera performs well in daylight conditions. But it struggles with dynamic range while capturing the shadows. The 50MP sensor captures good details with regular 12.5MP pixel-binned shots. Although, it struggles in low-light and artificial lighting conditions. There is a dedicated Night mode on the device that is fast and responsive. We also noticed some lag in focusing. Overall, the performance is not consistent, which means some shots might turn out to be good while others might not. We clicked most of the pictures in Auto mode, and the HDR worked just as expected. I will suggest keeping the AI Color Enhancement switched off to avoid oversaturation. The 16MP selfie shooter is capable of clicking some decent selfies. The macro and depth sensors are not of much use. The Narzo 50 can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps. It comes with an Ultra-steady stabilization mode that uses EIS.
Processor
Realme has used the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset for the Narzo 50. When compared to the Narzo 50A which had Helio G85 the Narzo 50 shows a significant increase in the Antutu Benchmark score. The company claims an increase of 42% in the benchmark scores. The Narzo 50 won’t lag or stutter under usual smartphone usage involving jumping between apps, browsing multiple tabs in Chrome, and social media usage. The phone comes with 6GB RAM that can be expanded by 5GB using the virtual RAM via internal storage. It sums up to a total of 11GB of memory which is enough for a smartphone. The 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage can be expanded by up to 1TB using a microSD card. There is a separate slot for the microSD card that makes room for 2 SIM cards at a time. In terms of gaming, BGMI played on balanced graphics. While the phone handled other games like Asphalt very well.
The fingerprint sensor on the device is fast, and a single bottom-firing gets pretty loud. The Narzo 50 is a 4G device and the network connectivity is good on the device. I am sure the company will soon launch a 5G device in the series.
Software
On the software front, the phone comes with Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. The Realme UI does come with a lot of bloatware. However, you can get rid of most of the apps. Otherwise, the UI is user-friendly. I would have loved Android 12 out of the box, but it is ok. Realme has integrated Glance into the phone’s lock screen and it can be customized to view content like news, sports updates, and more. If you do not like Glance, you are free to disable it.
Battery
The battery life on the phone is pretty good. Narzo 50 comes with a 5000mAh battery which has 33W fast charging support. On a full charge, it can easily last you one full day. But if you game a lot, you might have to plug in the charger. The charging speed on the phone is good and can fully charge the phone in about 90 minutes.
Final Verdict
The smartphone definitely offers value for money. It ticks all the right boxes at this price point. If the OLED screen and ultra-wide sensor are not your priority, the phone offers good value for money. Redmi Note 11 is the nearest competitor to the Narzo 50 as it is priced at Rs 13,499. But if you want a better display, overall design, better camera experience, and a clean UI, Narzo 50 is the one for you.
