Samsung India on Monday launched its new Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) smartphones. Both the devices will be available in India starting March 15. Samsung is trying to shake up things in the mid-range smartphone market with the newly launched A series smartphones.
You will see a lot of flagship features in 2017 editions of the Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7. Both the devices are water and dust resistant and comes with always-on displays which is first for this price bracket. You can pre-book the smartphones starting March 7 via the Samsung e-store as well as offline retailers. The new Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) have been priced at Rs. 28,990 and Rs. 33,490 respectively.
Compared to their predecessors, both the devices now support MicroSD cards up to 256GB, fast-charging and a larger battery.
The Galaxy A5 (2017) comes with a 5.2-inch FHD (1080p) Super AMOLED display, 1.9GHz Exynos 7870 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a dedicated microSD card slot. On the camera front, the smartphone has a 16MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture both on the front and rear. It features a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, and there’s a fingerprint scanner which doubles as a home button. On the software front, the phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is disappointing.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) has a larger 5.7-inch FHD (1080p) Super AMOLED display. Like the Galaxy A5, it comes with a 1.9GHz Exynos 7870 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage and microSD support. The smartphone gets a 16MP camera with f/1.9 aperture on the front and back. Compared to the Galaxy A5 (2017), the Galaxy A7 (2017) has a larger 3,600mAh battery with fast charging. It comes with a fingerprint sensor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The new Galaxy A-series smartphones will support Samsung Pay (with both NFC and MST compatibility). The company’s mobile payments solution is now live in India.
Talking about the design, both the smartphones comes in metal frames and glass rear panels. The speaker grilles sit on the right and the rear cameras are not protruding, which is a welcome change. There is a physical home button just below the screen and capacitive navigation keys sit on the either side. On the bottoms of both phones, there are 3.5mm audio jacks and USB Type-C ports. The power buttons are placed on the right panels, while the volume rockers are on the left.
