The much-awaited truly wireless earbuds by Carl Pei’s new consumer electronic venture Nothing has been announced globally. Ear 1 TWS earbud is the first product by the company that attempts to fill in the gap between premium and affordable TWS earbuds in the market. The earbuds focus on a clean and minimalist design. The earbuds are strategically priced at ₹5999 in India while the costs are higher in other markets.
Design
Nothing has paid a lot of emphasis on the design of its latest truly wireless earbuds. The Ear 1 sports a transparent design that exposes the components like microphones, magnets, and circuit boards. It is packed in a square-shaped transparent see-through case with rounded corners. The stem is made up of transparent plastic with the company’s branding. It also features red and white dots indicating the left and right earbud. The earbuds are light at 4.7g per ear and look comfortable.
The case features a plastic clamshell design. There is a magnetic charging dock to house the earbuds. You can charge the earbuds via a USB Type-C port while it also supports wireless Qi charging. The case comes with a physical toggle to put the earphones in pairing mode. The size of the case is bigger than the usual cases that make it difficult to carry. The case weighs 57.4g while its height and width are 2.30g.

Coming to the specifications, the Nothing Ear 1 packs in a couple of interesting features and specs. The Ear 1 brings Apple Airpods like features at an affordable price for the masses. Is it so? Let’s find out!
Nothing’s Clear Voice technology combines the response from 3 High Definition Mics with AI to achieve. The earbuds come with 11.6mm sound drivers with Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. In terms of battery, the earphones deliver up to 34hrs of listening with case and without ANC and 24hrs with ANC.
Nothing Ear 1 mobile App
The Ear 1 comes equipped with in-ear detection, Google Fast Pair, and IPX4 water and dust resistance. The earbuds support Android and iOS with Bluetooth 5.2. There is an app for Android and iOS that will let you customize the touch and slide controls. You can also set the equalizer from the app but unfortunately, it only gives you the option to select Balanced, More Bass, and More Treble. The app also lets you switch ANC modes, and check battery status.
Nothing Ear 1 Performance
Let’s talk about the performance of the earbuds. The earbuds come with SBC and AAC codec support and are backed by 11.6mm dynamic audio drivers. Bluetooth v5.2 promises better connectivity and impressive performance. Apart from the technical details, the Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbuds offer good sound quality.
The audio is very well balanced with clear vocals and good mids and lows. The Noise cancellation also works well for a sub ₹6000 price range but cannot be compared to the premium TWS like Samsung Galaxy Buds+ or Apple Airpods. The buds ship with two ANC modes: Transparency mode will let you hear the surrounding noise while Noise Cancellation mode kills the ambient noise. The company claims that the buds can offer up to 40db of Noise cancellation which is pretty good in this price range. Other than that, the earbuds are IPX4 water-resistant to save them from occasional splash.
Battery
Ear 1 TWS earbuds come with QI wireless charging support and a USB Type-C charging port on the case. The case has a 570mAh battery capacity while an individual earbud packs a 31mAh battery. The company claims to give up to a 34hrs backup with the case with ANC (Off) and 24hrs with ANC (On). In practical usage, the earbuds can easily last around 5 to 5.5 hrs on a single charge. The earbuds charge quickly and a 10 min charge can give 1 hr of usage without ANC.
Nothing Ear 1 Sale in India
Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbuds will go on sale on 16th Aug in India via Flipkart. The Ear 1 with multiple launch offers announced earlier, like No cost EMI for ₹2000 and bank discount.
My Opinion
Nothing, a new company backed by Carl Pei and Teenage Engineering looks promising. Ear 1 is their first product that can be clearly distinguished in the crowded TWS market. The Ear 1 stands out with its unique see-through design and sweet pricing in the Indian market. Bu the question is:
Should I buy the Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbuds?
Well, the answer is Yes. You can consider Ear 1 at the price of ₹5,999 keeping in mind the features it offers. It has a unique design, a balanced sound and could serve as a great daily driver. Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbud is an ideal choice to binge-watch content on your smartphone. However, you might not like it much if you are an audiophile.
