Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus launched in India starting Rs 57,900

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones were launched today in India at an event in New Delhi. The latest flagship smartphones by Samsung are open for booking on Flipkart and from select offline retailers and the Samsung India E-Store. The smartphones will be available in the country from May 2.

As declared earlier, the India variants of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S8 costs Rs 57,900 in India and Galaxy S8 Plus costs Rs 64,900. Both the devices have dual SIM functionality. The Galaxy S8 will come in Midnight Black and Maple Gold while the Galaxy S8 Plus will be available in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, and Coral Blue color variants.

Samsung has partnered with Reliance Jio to bring the Jio Double Data Offer which provides 56GB (28GB+28GB) data a month at Rs 309, for 8 months. Samsung will also bundle a wireless charger for free on the Pre-Booking orders. Finally, this time Samsung will bundle the AKG earphone in the box with the smartphone just like the other countries.

Features and Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are strikingly similar, the major differences are the screen size and the battery. Both the devices sports a Dual-edge curved display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and is called the Infinity Display. It’s a QHD plus Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels and comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The display on Galaxy S8 is a 5.8-inch display while the S8 Plus packs a larger 6.2-inch display. Both the devices come with an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

Samsung’s flagship devices in India are powered by its own Exynos 8895 SoC instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. Some of you might feel disappointed but, you will be surprised to know that the Exynos 8895 chipset has managed to beat the Snapdragon 835 in a few benchmark scores.

Both the devices will be powered by a 4GB RAM and will come with a 64GB onboard storage which can be expanded to 256GB via a Micro-SD card in a hybrid Dual-SIM setup.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones feature 12 MP ‘Dual Pixel’ rear cameras with optical image stabilization and an aperture of f/1.7. There is an 8MP, f/1.7 autofocus front-facing camera on both the devices.

The Galaxy S8 packs a 3000mAh battery and the Galaxy S8 Plus packs a larger 3500mAh battery. The devices also support fast charging and Wireless charging.

Let’s talk about the biggest highlight feature of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, which is the AI-powered Virtual Assistant BixBy. Unfortunately, at the launch, BixBy will not be able to answer your voice commands but will offer features like BixBy vision, Home, and Reminder.

When it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus features Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, USB Type-C, 4G VoLTE and WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz, 5GHz). The smartphones include all major sensors such as an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. They also support Samsung Pay, MST connectivity and come with iris scanner, fingerprint scanner, and facial recognition.
