“We are thrilled to have witnessed such an overwhelming customer response for the Redmi 4A smartphone. We had over 1 million ‘notify me’ requests from customers. Redmi 4A Design

The new smartphone is strikingly similar to the previous Redmi models but is actually made of polycarbonate instead of metal. I would have been quite surprised to see a metal body in a Rs. 6000 smartphone.

The device is compact and packs a 5-inch display which makes it easy to use with one hand. The volume rocker and power button sits on the right of the device while a hybrid sim tray is on the left. At the bottom, we have a USB charging port and at the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack and an IR blaster.

The phone is slightly curved at the edges and does not have a fingerprint sensor. There is a 13 MP camera at the back and a speaker grill below the MI branding.

The Redmi has been launched in three colours – Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold.

  • 2GB Ram and 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a MicroSD card.
  • Packs a non-removable 3120mAh battery.
  • 4G with VoLTE, the smartphone supports Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 801.11 b/g/n, GPS/AGPS, and GLONASS.
  • Dual sim slot(hybrid), primary sim supports 4G sim and the secondary sim supports 2G only.
  • Include sensor gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor.
  • The Device runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Similar to Redmi 3S, Redmi 4A also features a Dual Apps feature which lets you run two instances of Whatsapp, Facebook etc. The Second Space feature allows users to sign-in to two different Google accounts which lets users separate their business and personal data on the same device.

Redmi 4A Camera

The device has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a 5-element lens and f/2.2 aperture. It sports a LED flash, and supports low-light enhancement, HDR, panorama, burst mode, and face recognition. The camera app also packs in plenty of real-time filters which can be used for fun. There is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a f/2.2 aperture as well. You get 1080p and 720p video recording options at 30fps.

Talking about the camera quality we found that the device has a decent camera but fails to impress in low-light. However, in day-light the camera performed pretty well and is quick to focus. Considering the price point the camera quality is not that bad.

The overall performance of the Redmi is impressive and the device is capable of handling multiple tasks with ease. The device handled games like Asphalt 8 with ease although, we experienced a few lags.

The onboard storage is 16GB but users get about 10GB of usable storage. The battery performance was again impressive like the other Redmi devices. But it does not support fast charging. One of the highlights of the device is 4G VoLTE support.

Final Verdict

At Rs. 5,999 Redmi 4A has a lot to offer. Battery performance, 13 MP camera and VoLTE support are not the only thing, the device also offers great design.

If you are looking for a budget phone which supports VoLTE to reap benefits of Reliance Jio, go for it without a second thought.
