JioPhone Next is finally here. Are you excited about it? Are you even excited about it?
Well, here is all we know about the JioPhone Next. You can buy it for as low as ₹1,999/- but as always there’s a catch. So, read on if you want to know pretty much everything about the JioPhone Next.
JioPhone Next Price & Plans Explained
Reliance is known for its disruptive pricing which is impossible to match for other players in the market and JioPhone Next is no different. Jio brings you an Android smartphone specifically tuned as per the needs of Indian users at just ₹1,999/-. Isn’t that great?
Think of the people who have never used a smartphone because they were not able to afford it or may not know how to use it. This is a great thing to make them acquaint with a smartphone at a really amazing price. But as I said, there is a catch. The JioPhone Next is priced at ₹6,499. But, you can opt for an Easy EMI option which lets you buy the phone for ₹1,999 with an extra file charge of ₹501. The balance amount can be paid in easy monthly EMIs along with your cellular plan.
Let’s check out the EMI/cellular plans for JioPhone Next 4G smartphone.
JioPhone Next 4G Plans
Plan | 24 Month | 18 Month |
---|---|---|
Always-on Plan (5GB + 100 min/month) | ₹300/- | ₹350/- |
Large Plan (1.5GB/day + Unlimited Calling) | ₹450/- | ₹500/- |
XL Plan (2GB/day + Unlimited Calling) | ₹500/- | ₹550/- |
XXL Plan (2.5GB/day + Unlimited Calling) | ₹550/- | ₹600/- |
Not to forget the extra processing fees of ₹501 which means you have to make a payment of ₹2500/- before you take the JioPhone Next home. Or you can buy by paying the full amount of ₹6,499.
At ₹6,499 JioPhone Next is not cheap. But the financing scheme is hard to ignore. Jio has strategically rolled out the EMI plans for 18 & 24 months to retain the customer for a longer time. Another point to note is that if you opt for the EMI plans, you will end up paying significantly more than the cost of the phone. For example, if you opt for Large Plan for 18 months, you will end up paying (₹500 x 18) ₹9000 + ₹2,500 which brings up the total to ₹11,500.
However, the plan gives you 1.5GB data per day along with Unlimited calling, which is the same as Jio’s ₹199 prepaid plan. Let’s do the math again, (₹199 x 18) the ₹199 plan will cost you ₹3582 for 18 months. Now if we deduct the cost of the plan from the total cost (₹11500 – ₹3582) we get ₹7918 which is significantly more than the upfront amount which is ₹6,499.
Features & Specifications
Now that the JioPhone Next has been officially launched in the market, let’s have a look at the features and specifications of the phone.

My Opinion
If you ask me, I am not impressed with the JioPhone Next. Yes, the features on the phone do excite me but the price is a big letdown. I think the smartphone is highly overpriced and the specs are not in competition with the market.
Here are some of the downsides about the phone:
- The biggest downside is the price.
- No USB Type-C port.
- No fast charging.
- A very Basic processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Instead of buying the JioPhone, I would rather spend a bit more to buy a Redmi or Tecno phone.
