Xiaomi Announces Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite Selfie focussed phones

Xiaomi has announced two new selfie-focused phones in the Indian market, the Redmi Y1, and Redmi Y1 Lite. Xiaomi introduced a new Y series smartphones with a focus on the front camera at a press event yesterday in New Delhi. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 packs a 16MP front camera with a LED selfie-light. The company explains that the LED selfie light simulates the effects of natural lighting, and captures sharper and more vibrant self-portraits.

  • 5.5-inch 1280X720 HD Display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.
  • Android Nougat 7.1.2 with MIUI 9 beta.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 Octa-core processor with Adreno 505 GPU.
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage.
  • Memory can be expanded via a dedicated microSD card slot up to 128GB.
  • 16MP front camera with LED selfie-light, f/2.0 aperture and 13MP rear camera with PDAF and 1.12-micron pixel size.
  • 4G VoLTE support powered by a 3080mAh battery.

The other sibling has similar specifications the only difference being its processor which is 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor and the front camera is only 5MP. The devices also feature an IR blaster which pretty common with the Mi phones.

Redmi Y1 Lite Specifications

  • 5.5-inch 1280X720 HD Display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.

  • 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage with a dedicated memory card slot to expand up to 128GB.

The Y1 and Y1 Lite runs on MIUI 9 beta out of the box and will get a stable update in mid-November. MIUI 9 bring faster app launches and optimized thread scheduling in the background for better performance. The update also brings better notifications, icon animations, and smart photo editing. The update also brings new features like App Vault and enhancements to Mi Video, Mi Drop, and Mi Calendar.

Xiaomi claims that the MIUI 9 to be as fast as the Stock Android. Both the device will be available in Gold and Dark Grey color variants. As far as the price and availability is concerned, the Redmi Y1 3GB/32GB variant is priced at Rs 8,999 while the 4GB/64GB variant is priced at Rs 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite comes in only one configuration which is 2GB/16GB and is priced at Rs 6,999.

Both the devices will be an Amazon India exclusive and will go on sale via Amazon & Mi.com on Nov 8th. The handsets will also be made available on offline stores across the country.
